Pioneer Rugs

I learned how to make these rugs by volunteering up at This is the Place Heritage park https://www.thisistheplace.org/  I was often in the Rich home, and there we would create these rugs using a wooden loom and remnant fabrics from the pioneer dresses.

The pioneers had to be very resourceful.  The women would usually only have 1 or 2 work dresses, along with 1 or 2 Sunday dresses.  When the work dresses wore out, they would use the fabrics for other things.  If the dress was really worn out, the would cut it into strips and use it to make a rug. Making a rug could be done over time, and was a good activity for cold, shut in, winter days.
